Profile
John Li was called to the Bar in 2024 after serving pupillage with Mr. Marco K.W. Li, Mr. Gary Chung, Mr. Nicholas Oh, and served an extended pupillage with Ms. Manyi Tsang.
John graduated with distinction in the Graduate Diploma in Law and completed the PCLL at the University of Hong Kong. During his PCLL, John achieved the top score in the "Trial Advocacy" module, a compulsory component for aspiring barristers. Prior to practicing as a barrister, John worked as an insurance litigation assistant at an international law firm, focusing primarily on non-casualty insurance and D&O liabilities matters.
In his criminal practice, John has acted as a sole advocate in the Magistracy Courts and the District Court, handling a wide range of cases, including domestic violence, sexual crimes, dangerous drugs, and serious offenses such as murder. He has also conducted numerous legal visits to police station, the Immigration Department, and prisons.
On the civil side, John specializes in personal injury matters, including Employees' Compensation and Personal Injuries claims. He has provided written advices to various private clients and to the Department of Justice. During his pupillage, John also has significant exposure to general civil litigation, particularly in Winding-up and Bankruptcy matters.
John is fluent in Cantonese and English, with working proficiency in Mandarin. He is capable of preparing written work in both Chinese and English, and accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers' work.
